Power Being Restored After Massive Outage in Palos Park

Some areas in Palos Park are still without power after a transformer blew near 121st Street and Southwest Highway, police chief says.

Update -- Estimated restoration time is 8 a.m. Sunday.

Numerous Palos Park households and businesses went dark when an electrical transformer blew Saturday evening.

Palos Park Police Chief Joe Miller said that one of his officers saw what he thought was a transformer blowing in the area around 8 p.m. The officer was in the 8200 block of Route 83, looking south and east.

At the height of the power outage Palos Park was dark from 80th Avenue to Wolf Road. As of 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Chief Miller said that pockets of Palos Park are still experiencing power outages 86th and 104th Avenues.

Commonwealth Edison is on the scene replacing the culprit transformer on 121st Street and Southwest Highway, Chief Miller said.

Police set up an incident command center at Route 83 and 81st Street and remain on the scene.

Estimated restoration time is sometime after midnight on Saturday.
