Rebecca Selby Named AP at Glen Oaks School

Mrs. Selby Excited About Opportunity

Rebecca Selby was inspired to pursue a career in education by her father Michael, a dedicated physical education teacher and coach.

“I truly enjoyed watching my father at work and assisting him with after-school activities,” said Selby, who was recently named Assistant Principal at Glen Oaks School. She begins her new position on July 1.

Rebecca joins forces with friend and colleague Farah Daoud, who is in her first year as principal at the Hickory Hills’ school. The two worked together as team leaders at Glen Oaks when Mrs. Daoud was the social studies and ELA team leader and Mrs. Selby was the math and science team leader.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity to continue being part of such an amazing team,” Selby said. “Farah is such a strong leader. She is so organized and supportive and cares so much about all our students and staff.”

Mrs. Selby followed in her dad’s footsteps and attended Elmhurst College (now University.) She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She holds a Master of Science in Education-Educational Leadership from University of St. Francis.

She said she had a passion for the field of mathematics and found joy in helping her peers learn and understand math concepts through the tutoring program at Elmhurst College. “I love tutoring and I knew that working in the field of education was where I was meant to be.”

Fresh out of college, Selby took a teaching position at Plano High School. A couple of years later, she was hired in North Palos SD117 as an eighth-grade math teacher. While at Conrady, she earned her principal’s endorsement with former-principal Andy Anderson, whom she credits during those three years with providing amazing leadership and support.

She left Conrady in 2016 to take a position as a K-8 instructional math coach in Joliet School District 86, but returned three years ago to become the math and science team leader at Glen Oaks.

“I’m grateful to be taking on this role in the same building I have been working in for the last few years,” Mrs. Selby said. “The staff, students and families have welcomed me into their communities and I’m excited to help enhance the amazing work that is already being done here.”

Rebecca and her husband Jeff, a financial analyst, have two daughters: Amelia, 7 and Emma, 5. The couple reside in Tinley Park where they love spending time as a family and coaching their daughters’ softball teams.
