Registration Underway for Southwest Half Marathon and 10K Run/Walk

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL -- Get ready to spring from the blocks for the tenth annual Southwest Half Marathon and 10K Run/Walk on Sunday May 7. Online registration is open now for runners and walkers. There will be no race-day registrations. The events start at 7:30 a.m.

The course begins and ends at Palos Heights City Hall, Route 83 and 76th Avenue, and winds through gorgeous forest preserves and the newly repaved Route 83 in Palos Hills, Palos Heights and Palos Park. The 2017 edition features a 13.1-mile half marathon race, a 10K run and walk, and the half-mile walk, run or roll for special needs athletes. New this year is the Kid’s Dash Fun Run.

Race day also features music, entertainment, beer, pop and food. Cash prizes and awards will be handed out after the races under the big main tent located outside of Palos Heights City Hall. Runners will have access to a number of vendors’ and sponsors’ booths before and after the race. Runners will receive goody bags.

The top male and female finishers will receive a $500 cash prize. There are five age groups, starting with runners ages 15-19 all the way up to age 75, with additional cash prizes for the top three male and female runners in the 40-49. Everyone who finishes the half-marathon receives a medal.

Since 2008, the Southwest Half Marathon has raised more than $200,000 for area charities, including the South West Special Recreation Association, American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Garden in Palos Heights.

This year’s race will benefit the South West Special Recreation Association (SWSRA). The Southwest Half Marathon is being presented by Palos Heath and CNB Bank.
Individual registration for the half-marathon is $80; and $50 for the 10K run/walk. The kids’ fun run and walk, run or roll for special needs participants are free. Register online on the Southwest Half Marathon website.
