PALOS HEIGHTS, IL — Experience walking among 300 fluttering monarch butterflies at Lake Katherine Nature Center’s upcoming Monarch Celebration Sept. 18 and Sept. 19. Online registration is strongly encouraged to secure a slot in the butterfly tent.

The monarchs will be making a stop at Lake Katherine on their way south to Mexico. Last year’s celebration was canceled due to the pandemic, but this year the bash will take place over two days to allow more people to experience the magic of the monarchs. The fest runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

The grounds of Lake Katherine will be open to the public, but sections will be cordoned off for those that pre-book their entry to the event. Admission to the event is $10 (children under 3 are free), which includes 15 minutes in the butterfly tent, a visit with animal guests, a crafting area and a hayride around the grounds. Add $5 if you wish to release a butterfly, which can be added on the payment page. Attendees must be over age 5 to release a butterfly.
