PALOS HEIGHTS, IL — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

This submission comes from Ron Smith who nominated his son-in-law, respiratory therapist Jim Lonergan.

Jim works at Advocate Christ Medical Center providing respiratory therapy to sick children and adults, many with Covid-19

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:

Jim looks forward to going to work, even though it places him in danger. He does this without any fanfare or mention of himself. He is works the night shift, so he is secluded from his family at night and during the day, when he must sleep. Jim is a silent hero.
