Teen Bands Invited To Enter Oak Lawn's Battle Of The Bands

OAK LAWN, IL -- One of the highlights of last year’s Fall On The Green is returning in 2018, as the Oak Lawn Arts Commission brings back the Teen Battle of the Bands. Teen tunesmiths are invited to grab their bandmates and compete for a chance to play on the fall frolic’s mainstage. Bands whose members are ages 8 through 21, with at least half their of their members age 18 and under, can submit music of genre along with a completed application by 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. You don’t have to be an Oak Lawn resident to enter.

Last year the arts commission revived Oak Lawn’s teen band battle of years past at Fall On the Green with great success. The 2018 edition will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7. Gold, Silver and Bronze records will be given to the top three bands, plus many other prizes including studio time and guitar strings. Bands will be judged by experienced music professionals and event staff.Here’s what your band needs to do:

• Complete the application. Band members under 18 must have their parent/guardian sign a release form along, including contact information.
• Send your best three songs, which can include YouTube links and MP3s attached to an email, or cell phone videos.
• Bands whose members are ages 8 through 21, with at last half of the members under age 18, are eligible to enter.
• Teen bands must be unsigned and based in Illinois. Oak Lawn residency is not required.
• No solo acts; bands must have at least two members.
• Performance bands, e.g. all-star groups are prohibited from entering.
• All music genres are welcome and all performances must be suitable for a family audience. Set lists and lyric sheets for original songs will be reviewed prior to Friday’s performance.

Bands will judged by experienced music professionals and event staff. Bands will be ranked by the quality of their material, musical skill, overall talent, showmanship, professionalism, and also audience reaction, which will count as 20 percent of their score -- so invite all your family and friends. Prizes will be awarded to the top three bands, with the first place winner playing Fall On The Green's Main Stage from 11 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Sept. 9.

This is a totally FREE event. There is no entry fee for teen bands to participate, and everyone may attend the Friday night battle and the winning band's Sunday morning show at no cost.
