Car Burglary Suspect Nabbed After 30-Minute Foot Chase With Cops

Suspect faces nine felony charges for entering nine unlocked vehicles in Bridgeview, prosecutor said.

BRIDGEVIEW, IL -- A man out on bond was arrested after a foot chase with police when he was spotted rifling through unlocked vehicles, prosecutors said. Jessy Casey, 23, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on nine felony charges of burglar to a motor vehicle. Casey has a pending case for DUI, criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.

A Bridgeview woman spotted a man, later identified as Casey, rifling through her vehicle around 6 a.m. Aug. 27, the prosecutor said. The woman called 911 and police saw Casey allegedly running through yards and jumping fences, ignoring officers’ orders to stop. After a 30-minute foot chase, the prosecutor said police caught up with Casey.

The prosecutor said police found a wallet in Casey pocket that didn’t belong to him. He also had a backpack with items allegedly stolen from unlocked cars. The woman was brought to the scene where she reportedly positively identified Casey. Bridgeview police determined that nine vehicles had been reported broken into between Aug. 21 and Aug. 27. Casey allegedly admitted to police that had entered seven vehicles that morning and took police to the various addresses. The other two burglaries had taken place on Aug. 21.

The south suburbs have been plagued by unlocked car burglaries and vehicle thefts, in instances where key fobs were found inside the vehicles. South suburban police have recently taken to social media to raise awareness of the epidemic, including the #9pmroutine where residents are reminded via social media to go get their valuables out of the car and lock their vehicles every evening a 9 o’clock.
