Advocate Christ EMS Academy Offers Career-Ready EMT Basic Course
Advocate Christ is accepting applications for four-month EMT basic training course that begins January 2020.
OAK LAWN, IL — Advocate Christ Medical Center is offering career-ready training for emergency medical technicians. Applications for the four-month spring Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training course starting in January 2020 are being accepted now. The EMT course is the first step toward becoming a paramedic.
The course is scheduled to meet two times per week at the EMS Academy, 5220 W. 105th St., Oak Lawn. The day session meets on Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Jan. 13, 2020; and the evening session meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. beginning Jan. 14, 2020.
Students will learn how to assess and manage patients with medical and traumatic emergencies before taking them to the hospital. Taught by seasoned paramedics, registered nurses and other critical care experts, the course covers delivering babies; emergency medical treatment for victims of heart attack, stroke, seizure, motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds and falls.

The course consists of 110 hours of classroom work, 24 hours of clinical rotations in the medical center's emergency department and labor and delivery room, and 36 hours of ambulance training. The cost of the course is $1,300, which includes a $250.00 non-refundable deposit. Tuition covers books, lab fees, TB testing, background check, I.D., uniform shirt for clinical rotations and the AHA Healthcare Provider CPR course.
Advocate Christ Medical Center's EMT course is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Emergency Medical Services, and accredited through the Illinois Community College Board. Students will be enrolled as Moraine Valley Community College students and will receive MVCC credits. A registration form is available through Region VII EMS.
