Sen. Cunningham and Rep. Burke Host FREE Community Shred Day
Bring your documents to the Palos Hills Rec Center to be shredded Sept. 30 AND sign a petition to repeal the Cook County beverage tax.

PALOS HILLS, IL -- Residents can bring their sensitive documents to be shredded at Sen. Bill Cunningham and Rep. Kelly Burke’s free Community Shred Day on Saturday, Sept. 30. The state lawmakers are hosting the event along with Palos Hills Mayor Gerald Bennett from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palos Recreation Area, located at 8455 W. 103rd St. in Palos Hills. In addition to safely disposing sensitive paper documents, residents can also sign Rep Burke’s petition supporting legislation outlawing the Cook County sweetened beverage tax.
“I think the beverage tax is only going to hurt middle-class families and small businesses in our area,” Burke said. “I want to send a clear and loud message that this tax must be quickly ended.”
Burke, Cunningham and Bennett are partnering with AT&T to offer local residents free paper shredding. Documents that contain personally identifiable information will be securely destroyed. There is a two-box limit per resident, and residents are also asked to not leave cardboard boxes at the event, as they cannot be shredded.
“It’s important to safely dispose of sensitive personal information, but many families working hard to make ends meet don’t have a place in their budgets for shredding,” Burke said. “My shred day is a free opportunity for families to protect themselves from identity theft, and also protect our environment since these paper documents will be reused instead of going to a landfill.”
