Services Set For Former Palos Heights Police Chief Reed Powers
Visitation and funeral Mass for former Palos Heights Police Chief Reed Powers Sr. are set for Feb. 23 and Feb. 24.

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL -- Services are set for former Palos Heights Police Chief Reed Powers Sr., who passed away suddenly on Feb. 14 at age 77. He was the father of two sons and grandfather to six and great-grandfather of one.
Powers proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was a dedicated public servant to the Palos Heights community for over 30 years. Powers joined the police force on Aug. 25, 1968, rising to the rank of chief. He was also a long-time member on the Alsip-Hazelgreen-Oak Lawn Dist. 126 school board. Powers spent many memorable years with family and friends at Willow Shores Campground and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Powers also loved his beloved Chicago Cubs.
He was the loving father of Reed Jr. (Tricia) and Raymond (Kimberly); dearest grandfather of Kaitlyn (Robert Emery), Emily (Fiance Tyler Stoll), Erynn, Kacey, Reed III, and Jenna; and the proud great-grandfather to Ella Emery. He was a devoted brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and a great friend to many. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ella (Hartl).

Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Curley Funeral Home, 6116 W. 111th St., Chicago Ridge. Prayers will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, leaving the funeral home for 10 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of the Ridge Funeral Home, 10820 S. Oxford Ave., Chicago Ridge. Entombment is at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip. In lieu of flowers, donations to Elim Christian Services, 13020 S. Central Ave., Palos Heights, IL 60463, or 100 Club Chicago, 875 N.
