PALOS HILLS, IL — Spring is almost here (not counting our recent Spring of Deception) and with it, thoughts turn to getting the garden ready for the summer. This Saturday, March 2, newbie and experienced gardeners can pick up some pollinator tips at “Sow To Grow.”

The seed swap runs from 10 a.m. to noon at Lake Katherine Nature Center, 7402 Lake Katherine Drive, Palos Heights.

Native plant species provide flowering blooms throughout the entire season. As a general rule of thumb, plant a minimum of three species that will flower in the spring, three in the early summer and three in the late summer/early fall. Popular native blooms include blazing star, butterfly weed, golden Alexander and goldenrod, short and tall.
