Staley the Mascot BEARS Down on Bullying
Bears Mascot Brings Anti-Bullying Message to Glen Oaks Students

Staley, the Chicago Bears' mascot, brought his anti-bullying message to students at Glen Oaks School Monday during two high-energy rallies in the school's impressive and massive new gymnasium.
Sponsored by the Glen Oaks PTA and coordinated by teacher Brian Christopher, the rallies showed students how to deal with situations involving a bully, by telling them to stop and walking away; asking adults for help; sticking up for someone who is being bullied and being inclusive rather than exclusive.
Staley stressed that there are five kinds of bullies, including: the big-mouthed bully who tears you down with his words and makes fun of you; the hands-on bully who makes physical contact with you; the but-out bully who excludes you from participating in games; the cyber-bully who bullies you through the use of technology and the all-around bully who just likes to bully people.

Students were asked how they feel when they are bullied and they responded with words that included: sad, mad, frustrated and unsafe. They were then asked how they felt when they weren't bullied and they said happy, excited and safe.
Students received small prizes for answering questions that included: Who is the Bears starting quarterback?; What are the colors of the Bears' uniforms and What is the name of the stadium where the Bears play their home games?
