'Stop The Bleed' Training Offered By Palos Park Police And CERT
Participants will learn how to tie a tourniquet and pack wounds in the event of a mass shooting or accident Nov. 1.
PALOS PARK, IL — Do you know how to properly tie a tourniquet to “stop the bleed?” Residents are invited to a free class Nov. 1 being offered by the Palos Park Police Department and the all-volunteer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The class will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Kaptur Administrative Center, 8999 W. 123rd St.
The “Stop the Bleed” course will give participants skills which can mean the difference between life and death in the event of home injuries, workplace injuries, motor vehicle crashes or mass shootings. During the 90-minute training, participants will have an opportunity to practice with tourniquets, apply direct pressure to simulated wounds and learn how to pack, or fill, wounds with medical gauze.
Developed by the American College of Surgeons, the Stop the Bleed campaign – also known as the “CPR of bleeding” – has trained people worldwide, including students, teachers, and community groups. The national awareness campaign aims to make the nation more resilient by better preparing the public to save lives if people are severely bleeding nearby. The goal of the campaign is to train 200 million people.
