PALOS PARK, IL — A tip from the public led to the arrest of a Palos Heights man, who police said was captured on video beating up another man last week at Jewel. Hugh M. Higgins, 60, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with one misdemeanor count of battery, police said.

Higgins is said to have gotten involved in an altercation over a parking space at the Palos Park Jewel with a 65-year-old man on July 31. Police said Higgins followed the man into the Jewel-Osco store where he began punching the man, knocking him to the ground.

Palos Park police released a surveillance image and asked the public for its help in identifying the suspect. A tipster called neighboring Palos Heights police and identified the suspect after seeing the surveillance image in the news media, who informed Palos Park police.
