Turn Your Clocks Ahead One Hour On Sunday -- And Wash Your Hands

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. Turn the clocks ahead one hour, check your smoke alarm batteries and wash your hands.

Time to turn our clocks forward one hour this Sunday morning. At 2 a.m. Sunday (March 8) Daylight Saving Time officially begins. We lose an hour of the day (and an hour of sleep), but we gain an extra hour of daylight in the evening. (Also, wash your hand.)

Daylight Saving Time (some call it "Daylight Savings Time") was officially extended in the United States in 2007, beginning the second Sunday in March and ending the first week in November. Daylight Saving Time used to start on the first Sunday in April and ended on the last Sunday in October, according to Time Temperature. (Go wash your hands again.)

The time change is automatic for smartphones, computers, tablets and other digital devices, so be aware of the time change unless you want to be an hour early for church. If you have an analog clock, you're going to have to move the big hand forward one hour. Move your car clock ahead one hour too, unless you just left it from last November. (Did you wash your hands?)

Although the beginning of Daylight Saving Time is often associated with the beginning of spring, the Spring Equinox isn't until Thursday, March 19. (Keep washing your hands.)

It is also a good time to change smoke and carbon monoxide alarm batteries, and check to make sure the device are in working order, according to fire officials. (You washed your hands? Great!)
