Every year I challenge myself to stay out of the mall while Christmas shopping. I try to find unique, interesting, affordable gifts for everyone on our list. Luckily our area has numerous places to find these gifts. During the next few weeks there are two wonderful places to find original works by local artisans for everyone on your Christmas list.
The McCord Gallery and Cultural Center Holiday Shoppe is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. until December 21. Local artisans created fine gifts including pottery, picture frames, jewelry, silk scarves and holiday decorations. McCord Gallery and Cultural Center is located at 9602 W. Creek Road in Palos Park. Mayslake Peabody Estate has its Holiday Market December 13 (11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.) and December 14 (9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.). Dozens of vendors, including several participants new to this annual event, will offer an assortment of jewelry, tableware, artisan foods, decorative home goods, original artwork and more. A few of the many handcrafted items that shoppers will discover are fused glass bowls from PM Glass, mosaics from Incite Gallery and sweets from Rebecca's Handmade Toffee.
