Boil Order Extended 24 Hours In Worth Through Monday: Update

WORTH, IL—Keep boiling water in Worth. A massive water main break in Worth has put the village under a boil order, after the water system was shut down early Saturday morning so repairs could be made.

The boil order has been extended another 24 hours until Monday. The village has submitted a water sample for bacteriological testing and is waiting for confirmation that the water is safe for drinking.

“We have been taking water samples from all areas around town, but we don't have all the lab results back yet,” Mayor Mary Paquet Werner said on the village's Facebook page. “As a precaution we are extending the boil water order for another 24 hours for any water you drink or cook with.”

Worth residents should boil water from the tap for at least five minutes before using it for cooking, drinking, food preparation, washing dishes or brushing teeth. Don't let your pets drink it either.

When the boil order is lifted, let your faucets run for five minutes. For those of you with automatic ice makers, Worth resident John M. Leitelt advises neighbors to empty them.Then make three trays of ice and throw them away. Clean the ice bucket.

One wise guy said he drank the tap water on Sunday and feels fine.

Bridgeview was placed under a similar boil order last week.
