William "Bill" Joseph O'Mara, of Palos Heights, IL passed peacefully on 3/23/20. He was born in Chicago on August 16, 1926. He was the beloved husband of his loving wife the late Mary Francis (Walsh).
He is survived by his five loving children, Bill (Beth) O’Mara, John O’Mara, Mary Beth (late Terry) Strandberg, Laurie (Tim) Wassman, Mary Pat (Steve) Finn. Bill was the proud grandfather of Beth Ann O’Mara, Kelly (Ray) Wasilewski, Shannon (Mark Kwak) O’Mara, Bill (Colleen) O’Mara, Molly O’Mara, Becky (Ilan) Klinghofer, Laura (Rhett) Elder, Diana Strandberg, Lydia (Casey Kadlubowski) Wassman, Shannon Finn, Catherine Finn, and great-grandfather to Ben, Eli, Sam, Kayla, Sadie, Layla, Grant, and Billy.
Bill was born in Chicago and was one of seven brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles O’Mara and Sarah (Myron) O’Mara.

Bill worked very hard supporting his family as the owner of Ridge Super Mart in Chicago Ridge. Upon retirement he continued working hard in many volunteer capacities. Bill spent countless hours as a RCIA leader and other volunteer positions at St. Alexander Parish and working in leadership roles in The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago. He received the Christifideles Award at Holy Name Cathedral for his dedication to the church and its ministries. He spent many hours helping others at The Chicago Catholic Port ministries preparing and distributing food at their soup kitchen, their bread truck, and delivering holiday meals.
Bill attended St. Sabina’s Elementary School, De La Salle Institute, and graduated from De Paul University.

Bill was a Veteran of WWII.
The family would like to thank Franciscan Village in Lemont for their care and compassion.
