Woman, 70, Fatally Struck by Car in Palos Park

PALOS PARK, IL — A 70-year-old woman died Saturday evening after she was struck by a car in Palos Park.

Sonja M. Klein, of the 13100 block of South 86th Avenue, was hit by a Jeep at West 131st Street and South 86th Avenue in Palos Park. Klein was in the roadway, walking north across 131st Street when she was struck, according to Cook County Sheriff's Press Secretary Sophia Ansari.

The driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old man from Oak Forest, stopped at the scene. Another driver on the scene who announced he was a doctor attempted CPR.

Klein was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m.

An autopsy Sunday determined she died of blunt force injuries from being struck by a Jeep. Her death was ruled an accident.

No arrests or citations had been issued as of late Sunday. The investigation is ongoing.
