“ Hands Around the Library” Rescheduled for September 6

Library fans who were disappointed when we had to cancel the “Hands Around the Library” scheduled for our annual summer lawn event can take heart. The largest human chain in Park Ridge history is now set to take place on Friday, September 6 at 6:00 p.m., during First Fridays.

As part of our 100th anniversary celebrations, “Hands Around the Library” echoes another human chain that remains part of library lore: the famous book move that took place in 1958, when the Library moved into its current building. For the event, scores of children were recruited to transport books across the street from the old Carnegie Building (for more information on this story, check out the Library blog at http://prplcentennial.wordpress.com/.)

This time around, we won’t be moving any books – just getting together, joining hands, and celebrating 100 years of community spirit! All participants will receive a special commemorative pin for taking place. We’ll also be creating a special photograph of the historic event, which will be made available to patrons at a later date.

Please arrive by 5:45 p.m. to ensure a smooth set-up. We encourage families and library lovers of all ages to come!
