19-Year-Old Woman Found Shot In Park Ridge: Cops

A Lake County woman was shot Monday morning and got lost in Park Ridge on the way to the hospital, police believe.

PARK RIDGE, IL — A 19-year-old woman was shot Monday morning in Park Ridge. Police said they received a call of a person shot around 8:45 a.m. in the 100 block of North Meacham Avenue.

When responding officers arrived, they found the woman with an apparent gunshot wound to her right leg inside a vehicle in a cul de sac next to the Trader Joe's parking lot, according to Park Ridge police. Police believe she is a resident of Lake County.

According to Park Ridge Police Deputy Chief Duane Mellema, the woman was shot sometime after 6 a.m. outside of Park Ridge. She told police she had been sitting in a car with a 19-year-old man, also a resident of Lake County, when two men walked up and began shooting.

The woman was treated at the scene and later taken to Advocate General where she underwent surgery for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

Police have yet to establish the location of the shooting and believe the two 19-year-olds were looking for a hospital when they got lost in Park Ridge and called 911, according to Mellema.

Police said they do not this there is any further danger to the community and described the shooting as an isolated incident.

Investigators continue to look into how and where the incident took place and may have further information about possible suspects later in the week, Mellema said.
