Advocate Health Care Welcomes Bone Marrow Transplant Specialist, Dr. Tulio Rodriguez

Advocate Health Care is pleased to welcome Bone Marrow Transplant Physician and Hematologist/Oncologist, Tulio E. Rodriguez, M.D. Dr. Rodriguez has been appointed the new Director of the Advocate Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program and Director of Transplant Services for Advocate Health Care. Dr. Rodriguez will see bone marrow transplant patients at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois as well as Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois.

“Dr. Rodriguez is a well regarded physician who brings an excellent reputation and skill set to Advocate Health Care and Advocate Medical Group,” said Advocate Medical Group president, Vincent Bufalino, MD. Dr. Rodriguez was recruited from Loyola University Medical Center, where he served as Medical Director of the BMT Unit for 14 years and was also a Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Rodriguez earned his medical degree at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra School of Medicine in the Dominican Republic and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at San Juan Veterans Affairs Medical Center, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Subsequently, he completed training in Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He served as the Director of the Bone Marrow and Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation Program at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine where he also held a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor. He has also held faculty appointments at Rush University School of Medicine.

Dr. Rodriguez has performed over 2,500 bone marrow transplants in his career and has published and lectured widely on a range of medical and bone marrow transplant topics. He has devoted much of his research career to the study of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and hematologic malignancies. He recently published a new stem cell transplant regimen for patients with multiple myeloma that delivers a better progression free survival in comparison to the current standard of care. He is a member of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research and is an advocate for NIH research funding through the American Society of Hematology Advocacy Leadership Institute.
