Rabid Bat Found In Park Ridge Neighborhood: IDPH

PARK RIDGE, IL – A bat found near the 1100 block of South Rose Avenue in Park Ridge has tested positive for rabies, city officials announced.

The bat was collected May 19, with the positive test result later confirmed by an Illinois Department of Public Health laboratory, according to the city.

Officials reminded residents not to handle bats or other wild animals. Anyone who believes they may have been exposed to or bitten by a bat should contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Cook County Animal and Rabies Control also urged residents to make sure pets are current on rabies vaccinations and to keep pets leashed or supervised while outdoors.
