PARK RIDGE, IL — Park Ridge police are alerting residents after a suspicious incident involving a student walking home from school Wednesday afternoon.
Police said a 15-year-old girl was walking home from Maine South High School at around 1:45 p.m. May 27, near Talcott Road and Courtland Avenue when she was approached by an unknown man driving a dark-colored sedan, possibly a newer Mazda.
According to police, the driver told the student she “looked familiar” and encouraged her to get inside his vehicle. After the student stated her age, the driver left the area, police said.
The interaction lasted about 30 seconds, according to police.
Police described the driver as a Black man, approximately in his mid-30s, with a light complexion, short hair and a short goatee or beard.
The department said the notification is being shared for awareness and community safety purposes.
Residents are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings, report suspicious activity immediately and remind students not to approach or enter vehicles with unknown individuals.
