📰 News we're reading

• Park Ridge Planning and Zoning nixes hotel proposal, though project not dead yet (chicagotribune.com) — Park Ridge's Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended against a five-story boutique hotel proposed for a block of century-old cottages near Uptown, citing excessive density and proximity to homes. Despite the 5–2 vote, the developer can seek a rehearing, and the project may still advance to the Park Ridge City Council as soon as October for further consideration.

• Construction kicks off on cancer center at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge (chicagotribune.com) — Construction is underway on a $99 million cancer center at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, nearly doubling the campus and consolidating many cancer services into one hub by early 2028. The two-story facility will centralize treatment, diagnostics, infusion bays, and support services, with a calming landscaped entrance designed to make care more accessible and less stressful for north suburban patients.

• When Illinois finally sanctioned flag football, Emerson De La Cruz seized her moment (usatoday.com) — A standout Maine South senior from Park Ridge, Emerson De La Cruz, has helped turn girls flag football into a championship sport locally while earning a scholarship offer from Nebraska. After IHSA sanctioned the sport, she led the Hawks to a 2025 state title, shifted from receiver to quarterback this season, and now aims to defend their crown against tough postseason competition.
