Inaugural breast cancer walk success in Park Ridge

The inaugural Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Park Ridge exceeded all expectations; already surpassing $70,000. 600+ people participated in the event from the Park Ridge area.

American Cancer Society held its inaugural Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Park Ridge on May 7. The event was co-chaired by Dave Malcomson and his wife, Angie, a 20 month breast cancer survivor  When the Malcomson’s found out that Angie carries a gene responsible for hereditary breast cancer naturally they were even more concerned because they have a 7 year old daughter who is also at risk for the disease.

In their fight back against breast cancer, Angie and Dave received a lot of support from the Park Ridge community where Dave is a firefighter. Seeing that there was an interest in the city to support breast cancer awareness they joined the American Cancer Society in an effort to raise funds for research, patient services, education and support.

The inaugural Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Park Ridge exceeded all expectations; the original goal was $50,000 and now it has already surpassed $70,000 and continues to grow. More than 600 people participated in the event from Park Ridge and the surrounding communities. Having the walk so close to Mother’s Day was a great way to honor and remember all the mothers who have been affected by the disease. The Malcomson’s hope to host another Strides walk next May and encourage anyone who would like to volunteer to help plan or participate to reach out to 847-368-1166 ext. 3.
