Press Release - Village Bank and Trust Buys Historic Park Ridge Pickwick Theatre Seat Through the Kalo Foundation
Village Bank and Trust recently became a part of Park Ridge history by purchasing a vintage Pickwick theatre seat through the Kalo Foundation. Established in 2006, the Kalo Foundation is dedicated to safeguarding the rich artistic legacy of Park Ridge through education, advocacy, and preservation, as well as promoting the cultural heritage of the city.
The Pickwick theatre seats have been available since May 2012 through The Kalo Foundation. Pickwick owner Dino Vlahakis donated the seats to Kalo, which is using them to raise funds for ongoing restoration efforts at Iannelli Studios Heritage Center, when he replaced the seats in the theatre last spring.
Kalo spearheaded the effort to save Iannelli Studios in 2011, the home and studio of Alfonso Iannelli, a leader in the American Modernism movement, who lived and worked for 45 years in his home and studio at 255 N. Northwest Highway. “We were so grateful to Dino Vlahakis for giving us this opportunity because the seats are from the historic Pickwick Theatre and Iannelli played such a pivotal role in the design and ornamentation of that world famous art deco movie palace” said Betsy Foxwell, Kalo president.

JoAnn Flynn, Vice President/Branch Manager of Village Bank and Trust, purchased the vintage Pickwick theatre seat recently to put on permanent display at the bank’s Park Ridge location. “Since Village Bank and Trust believes in preserving the history of the community of Park Ridge, we thought it was important to display such an iconic piece of local history in our lobby”, stated Flynn.
