Film Nights featuring the works of Albert Brooks Sundays in July at The WIP Theater!

Summer Series: Introducing Albert Brooks. This Summer series is donation only. A $10 suggested donation to the theater is suggested.

After a series of popular short subjects filmed for Saturday Night Live, multiple appearances on The Tonight Show, and his acting debut in Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, Albert Brooks became a household name in the 70’s before making his first full-length feature film, Real Life, in 1979. Several screenplays and numerous TV and film appearances later (which included an Oscar nomination for his performance in Broadcast News), Brooks earned a national reputation as an original comedic voice. The seven comedies Brooks wrote and directed for himself to star in, four of which we will view for this series of Film Night at The Wip Theater, display a freshness and insight into a media-saturated modern America that hardly feels dated today. In addition to the laughter, we will look at Brooks’ unique and ingenious skill in mocking the ways in which media culture distorts our worldview and creates havoc in our lives, as well as Brooks himself, whose neurotic and narcissistic on-screen persona beautifully reflects our own insecurities and obsessions.

Film night will be on Sundays at 8pm July 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th.
