The Burden of Student Loan Debt To Be Addressed in a Free Webinar hosted by Liberty Bank for Savings

Liberty Bank for Savings, an $850-million Chicago bank, will sponsor a free webinar to help people reduce or eliminate student loan debt on Wednesday, Oct.14 at 7 p.m.

“Wipe Out Student Loan Debt” conducted by Laura La Belle, a certified financial planner and money coach, will be available free of charge via laptop or smartphone at https://goo.gl/jY1xEH. She will cover the latest programs, options, and specific steps to eliminate student loan debt. Registration is required.

According to the Institute for College Access & Success in 2012, 45 percent of American households are struggling to repay 1.2 trillion in student loan debt—an increase of 500 percent over the past decade. More than one million, or 71 percent, of all students graduating from four-year colleges left with student loan debt.

This 60-minute webinar, which includes time for questions and answers, is designed for college grads in Chicagoland. Topics include how to apply for new debt repayment programs; prevent student loan defaults; avoid garnishments, liens, and tax levies; evaluate new payment reduction programs; use debt forgiveness programs which may save thousands of dollars; and avoid scam artists that prey on debt-ridden borrowers.

“Former students across the country hold an average debt loan of nearly $30,000, making college loans one of the biggest sources of debt-related stress,” said Kevin Tynan, Senior Vice President of the Chicago-based bank. “Americans only owe more on home mortgages. In offering this webinar we seek to help real people deal with an issue that is putting increasing pressure on American families,” he said.
