More than a thousand Maine Township residents hunted for bargains at Maine Township’s 15th Annual Community Garage Sale Sept. 21. The event raised more than $4,000 for Adventure Maine Township Summer Day Camp, a program that gives at-risk youth, ages 8 through 13, the opportunity to participate in cultural and recreational experiences to which they may not otherwise have access.

Maine Township's 15th Annual Community Garage Sale raised more than $4,000 for Adventure Maine Township Summer Day Camp. The event took place Sept. 21 in the parking lot at Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard Road, Park Ridge.

“One of the best parts of this event—besides being fun for the whole family—is the support that it provides for our summer camp program,” said Maine Township Supervisor Laura J. Morask. The camp program, coordinated by the Township’s MaineStay division, gives at-risk youth, ages 8 through 13, the opportunity to participate in cultural and recreational experiences to which they may not otherwise have access.

More than a thousand shoppers hunted for bargains as they enjoyed free coffee provided courtesy of Supervisor Morask and donuts and lunch items that were available for purchase. One lucky shopper, Maine Township resident Tony Goetter was the winner of a children’s bicycle raffle.

“In spite of the less than ideal weather, the garage sale was a success by all accounts. I heard nothing but positive feedback from our vendors, many of whom have been participating in this event for over ten years. Most importantly, we raised over $4,000 for our summer camp program for at-risk youth,” said Richard Lyon, MaineStay Youth & Family Services Director, who oversees the program.

Sponsors included Journal & Topics Newspapers, Senior News 50 & Better, Suburban Resource Guide for Seniors, Chicago Behavioral Hospital, International Bank of Chicago, Parkway Bank, Law Offices of Laura J. Morask, Garvey’s Office Products, and Arrow Road Construction.
