Maine Township Honors Niles/Park Ridge Crop Walk Efforts and 25th Anniversary
For the past 25 years, local churches and organizations have held an Annual Crop Walk to collect food and raise funds for area food pantries
Annual Crop Walk Celebrated and Thanked
Maine Township Supervisor Carol A. Teschky presented a proclamation on Oct. 25 to representatives of the Niles/Park Ridge Crop Walk in recognition of 25 years of hosting the annual food drive.
The Crop Walk event benefits the Township’s food pantry and other pantries in the area with donated food and money raised. The Crop Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by the Church World Service and organized by local churches and community groups to raise funds to end hunger at in the United States and around the world.

Since 1992, the Niles/Park Ridge Crop Walk has raised about $500,000 with $100,000 going to the Maine Township Food Pantry. In 2015, the local walk event by 14 area churches and organizations raised over $36,000 in food and money. Proceeds from the Oct. 16, 2016 event will be distributed early next year.
