Maine Township Steps Up to Aid Displaced Landings Residents

Help was given onsite and in the days to come

Fatal Fire Leaves Some Maine Township Residents Displaced

Early Sunday morning, volunteers with the Maine Township Office of Emergency Management (OEM) were notified of a structural fire taking place at The Landings condominiums in the 9300 block of Landings Lane in unincorporated Maine Township. The fire started on the top floor off a six-story, 35-unit building. Currently, all residents of the building are displaced and will not be allowed back into the building until it is deemed safe to enter.

“Our hearts go out to all the victims of the fire that tragically struck the Landings today,” said Maine Township Supervisor Laura Morask. “And particularly to the friends and family of the deceased.”

Numerous fire departments from all over the northwest suburbs came to the aid of North Maine Fire Department to battle the blaze. “We thank each and every one of them as well as the CERT team, OEM, the Maine Township Highway Department and the Salvation Army, said Supervisor Morask.

“Moving forward, the Township will assist Landing residents with boxes of food, emergency supply kits, and shelter assistance services,” Morask stated.

Dagmar Rutzen, Director of OEM, said, “Our active volunteers responded immediately and we were on site assisting with traffic and distributing emergency kits.”

The OEM is staffed by one part-time employee and some very dedicated volunteers who are trained in communication, traffic and crowd control, damage assessment, emergency operations and weather spotting. The Operations Center at Maine Town Hall accommodates up to 30 individuals from local emergency response entities. In the event of an emergency, command level leaders from the OEM, fire department, police, highway department, township, human services, Red Cross, Salvation Army and other entities work together to implement an emergency response plan.

If you are a Landings resident in need of services and energy help, please come to Town Hall located at 1700 Ballard Road, Park Ridge, IL. Our OEM and Township trucks will be available from 9 AM – 5 PM to distribute food and direct people to staff who can assist with shelter assistance. If you are interested in donating food and supplies or even becoming an OEM volunteer, please visit the new Maine Township website at www.mainetown.com or call 847-297-2510.
