MaineStay adds anger management and parent support programs

These are excellent programs well worth checking out!

Two new MaineStay programs will begin in December.
They are an adult anger management group and a parent support group. For
more information or to sign up for either group, contact Richard Lyon,
Director of MaineStay Youth & Family Services, at
rlyon@mainetown.com or call him at 847-297-2510, Ext. 261.

Designed to help individuals gain control over anger, the eight-week
anger management group will not only help participants better understand
anger, but will help them make positive behavior changes to manage
anger effectively. The group will meet at Maine Township Town Hall, 1700
Ballard Rd., Park Ridge, on Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. beginning Dec. 8
and ending Feb. 2. There is no meeting scheduled for Dec. 29.

”Anger is a human emotion which, in and of itself, is neither good
nor bad. However, anger becomes a problem when it lasts too long,
becomes too intense, or in any number of ways seems to take control of
our lives," said Lyon, a certified anger management specialist, who will
lead the group.

Only 10 spaces are available for the anger management group and
participants must be 19 years of age or older. The fee for the entire
eight-week program is $20. Participants will receive a certificate of
completion at the end of the group that can be used for court mandates.

The new free monthly parent support group designed to help parents
learn new skills, connect with one another, strengthen family
relationships, and pass their knowledge and experience on to other
parents will begin Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Maine
Township Town Hall.

Also led by Lyon, an independent Love and Logic trainer with 12 years
of experience working with parents, the group will focus on positive
parenting strategies and how to develop resiliency in children. Common
concerns such as tantrums, discipline, parent-child interaction,
self-esteem, peer relationships, and communication will be addressed.
There will be ample time for participants to ask questions and
discussion will be tailored to the interests of the group.

Open to parents or guardians who live in Maine Township or who have
children attending a Maine Township school, the group will meet monthly
on the second Tuesday of each month. Pre-registration is required.
Dinner will be provided.
