Mel Thillens Receives Park Ridge Community Star

For the second time in four years, Mel Thillens received the Park Ridge Community Star.

Mel Thillens recently received the Park Ridge Community Star for his work on the Park Ridge Holiday Lights Fund Committee. The committee received their award at the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce’s “Night of Stars” on February 20. The committee raised money in order to buy and install holiday lights in Uptown and South Park during the Christmas season. Other members of the Holiday Lights Fund Committee include Rick Biagi, Roger Shubert, Jackie Matthews, John Moran, Tony Svanascini, and Robert Trizna.

The Park Ridge Community Star is awarded to individuals that go beyond normal duties with an extra effort in community building, being a role model to young people, and making positive changes in the community by introducing initiatives and community programs.

This is not the first time Mel Thillens has been awarded the Park Ridge Community Star. Thillens also received the award in 2013 for his work on the Park Ridge Park District Board of Directors and as the Chairman of the Taste of Park Ridge Committee.
