Moylan's "Spend Now, Pay Later" Budget Vote
Moylan and Madigan doubled down on the broken status quo by passing an unbalanced budget.

Last week, State Representative Marty Moylan and Speaker Madigan doubled down on the broken status quo by passing an unbalanced budget that ignores the structural reforms Illinois government needs.
“We should not spend more than we can afford and we should balance our budget accordingly,” stated Marty Moylan in his campaign propaganda for Representative. Moylan time and again has said one thing while his record shows he does another. Sadly, that is the same for many of those down in Springfield - it is all about self preservation.

Voters need to be aware that in taking yet another step away from anything resembling financial solvency, Illinois will continue to bleed dry from this type of approach to budgeting:
Unemployment Rate Increases

Credit Rating Decreases
Families and Businesses Exodus
The only way this budget can be funded will be through massive tax increases. This is the approach we rejected when we elected Governor Rauner in November. This is a clear demonstration of Representative Moylan’s tone-deaf determination to continue the policies of Governor Quinn, Mike Madigan, and the Chicago Machine to protect his own power at the expense of our families.
Our Representative’s votes should be in alignment with the values and principles of voters in an effort to create a solvent Illinois. His votes should NOT support a broken and unsustainable environment as is currently happening. Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Sound familiar? Moylan and Madigan want you to believe this time their underfunded budget will work. The reality is:
Illinois does not have a revenue problem. From 2006-2014, Illinois saw a 48% increase in tax revenue. Unfortunately, the state has very little to show for it. In those eight years, we went further into debt; our liabilities increased; our credit rating plummeted; our ability to deliver basic services deteriorated; and people, businesses, and jobs fled the state.
Illinois has a spending problem. And it is a moral imperative that we fix Illinois’ budget crisis and fund state government without asking taxpayers, yet again, to forfeit more of their hard-earned money.
This latest vote is the continuation of Rep. Moylan’s “spend now, pay later” approach. Last year, Marty Moylan voted for a budget that purposely underfunded core government programs like criminal justice, child care, and services for the developmentally disabled. As a result, earlier this year those individuals saw their services cut off.
Moylan’s vote this past week is consistent with his previous votes that do NOT align with the financial needs of Illinois further demonstrating that Marty Moylan and his Chicago Democrat allies feel confident they can continue to deceive voters despite their promises of responsible government:
Implementing an UNBALANCED Budget INCREASING the Debt Limit Using LOOPHOLES to Hike Spending
Marty Moylan and Mike Madigan promised in the 2014 elections to be the great champions of the little guy. They promised to make government live within its means AND continue to provide all the services they’ve provided over the past decade. Now, they support a budget that includes increases in government expenditures and calls for massive tax hikes in direct opposition of their promises.
As a small business owner, protecting people’s money is my job. As a community advocate, I promised I would continue to raise my hand (not just my finger) when there was a problem. This budget is a problem – A BIG PROBLEM.
