No Harrison Ford Statue In Park Ridge, Aldermen Say: Report

A proposal to erect a statue of Ford in the city was axed Monday by officials, the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate reported.

PARK RIDGE, IL — Harrison Ford has graced the silver screen for decades but his likeness will not grace the streets of Park Ridge after aldermen opted Monday to reject a proposal to put a statue of the famous actor in the city, according to the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate.

Ford was born in 1942 in the Chicago area and attended Maine Township High School East, according to the Internet Movie Database.

Sculptor Omri Amrany argued a statue of Ford would be a boon for tourism and civic pride, and said Amrany's studio would contact Ford if the city liked the idea, the Herald-Advocate reported.

However, Mayor Marty Maloney expressed unease about moving forward with the project, citing Ford’s own experiences in the city, according to the Herald-Advocate, which reported the statue could cost up to $250,000.

Famous for iconic roles in the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, Ford has spoken publicly about being bullied as a child growing up in the Chicago suburbs. In a 2017 interview for GQ, he recounted being pushed down a hill every day when he was middle-school-aged and was attending school in Morton Grove.
