Once again, Flashback Weekend has come and gone. Once again, I had a lot of fun and left the Crowne Plaza in Rosemont with some great memories.
Flashback Weekend is a yearly horror convention which features many celebrities from various horror-related genres. Authors, artists, actors and more can be found at Flashback Weekend, but there is much more to do than simply "meet-and-greet" these celebrity guests.
There was a movie screening of Night of the Living Dead with Director George Romero attending at the nearby Muvico. There were several panel discussions featuring mini-reunions of a few horror movies. There also was a Zombie Pinups Beauty Pageant, costume contests and several other fun events within the Flashback Weekend event.
The main draw for me though are the celebrities. I was really excited to meet veteran actor Danny Glover, one of the later additions to the celebrity list. Glover is one of my long-time favorites and he was simply a pleasure.
We reconnected with actor-stuntman Kane Hodder. We have met Hodder previously at Flashback Weekend and have built a bit of a friendly relationship with him. He even remembered "choking" us in the last photo. He was promoting his book Kane Hodder Kills.
We met actress Meg Foster, who signed Matt's They Live poster. This completes the big three of the movie. Coincidentally, Matt had gotten Roddy Piper at a previous Flashback Weekend.
Other interesting guests included the aforementioned Romero, Betsy Russell, Svengoolie and so many more. It was such a fun event, just like it always is.
I attend a lot of similar conventions, but Flashback Weekend stands out among them. Their celebrity guest list, activities and organization make this horror convention a real "can't miss" for me. I am already looking forward to next year.
While I wait for Flashback 2014, I will be checking out the Midway Drive-In Theatre in Dixon. It is owned and operated by the fine folks behind Flashback Weekend. This weekend, they are showing The Conjuring and Pacific Rim. Other exciting events are scheduled over he next few weekends.
It is an exciting time of the year for horror fans and I am a horror fan. I am also a very big fan of Flashback Weekend and will be updating you on Flashback Weekend 2014 as soon as info starts getting released!
