Orchestra Wraps up Season with Monumental Work

Park Ridge Civic Orchestra to perform Mahler 5th Symphony

Music Director Victor Muenzer will lead the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra in its first performance of Mahler Symphony No. 5 on May 6th at the Pickwick Theatre in Park Ridge. An epic piece in its own right, the Mahler 5th gained iconic standing in Chicago as the work most closely associated with Sir Georg Solti’s era as Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Muenzer is no stranger to the work, having heard it many times as a child when his father (Edgar), Park Ridge Civic Orchestra founder, played in the violin section of the Chicago Symphony. Victor Muenzer holds a particular passion for the piece and will impart his enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, the work in a special lecture event the weekend before the concert.

Opening the May 6th program are two Mozart works, the Allegro movements of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and the Flute Concerto in G.
Kathryn Chiodo, winner of the 2014 Rotary International Educational Scholarship awarded by the Rotary Club of Park Ridge, is the flute soloist. A complimentary wine reception for audience and musicians follows the concert.
