What Does A Shelter in Place Mean for Park Ridge?

Today Governor Pritzker announced a shelter in place for the State of Illinois. As defined by the Illinois Department of Public Health, sheltering in place means staying at home. The intent of this order is to ensure that the maximum number of people self-isolate in their places of residence to the maximum extent feasible, while enabling essential services to continue, to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The mandate goes into effect on March 21 and will continue until at least April 7.

People should stay in their homes unless they need to leave for “essential” activities. Essential activities include visiting healthcare professionals, getting prescriptions and medical supplies, and shopping for groceries and pet supplies.

Many businesses are also considered “essential” and are also available. These include healthcare, grocery stores, gas stations, auto repair shops, hardware stores, banks and credit unions, and delivery services.

In order to continue to protect our residents and citizens, City facilities remain closed to the public during this time, however, the Police Department at 200 South Vine Street will remain open for urgent matters.

Please remember, you are not alone. We are here to help. Public safety (Police and Fire) as well as public works employees and others in the City performing essential functions will still be at work.
