St. Juliana Honors Canadian Hockey Team After Tragedy

Students and Faculty Will Wear Hockey Gear to Help Raise Money for Humboldt Broncos Families

Students and faculty from St. Juliana School on Chicago’s Northwest side are joining a movement to show support for the families affected by the Humboldt Broncos tragedy in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. St. Juliana students and faculty are being asked to make a donation and wear a hockey jersey or t-shirt to school on Thursday, April 12th. Money raised will be sent to a GoFundMe page set up by a parent of a former Humboldt Broncos player.

“We have several hockey families at our school that wanted to let the Humboldt Broncos’ families know that we support them from nearly 1,300 miles away. Compassion and service to others is at the core of our Catholic education and we are honored to play a small role in helping these families,” said Margie Marshall, St. Juliana School Principal.

School parents got the idea after seeing a Facebook post from the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois asking for schools across Illinois to wear hockey gear to school this Thursday. The Humboldt Broncos are a Junior A hockey team that was involved in a serious bus accident on April 6th that killed 15 players and staff and injured 14 more.
