Staying in Touch with Customers

We all know how important it is to keep in touch with our customers.  Our challenge is: “How can we effectively stay in touch without being a pest?”  Here are two tips which may be helpful.

One size does not fit all

Our customers all have individual preferences on how they like to be contacted.  Does a specific customer prefer a terse email message, a hand written note, a personal visit, a phone call, or some other method?  Find out how your customers like to be contacted, and the best times to contact them.

Provide something of value

Consider communications with your customers to be “an exchange of values.”  The value they are giving you is their time.  What are you giving in exchange for their time?  It could be anything from some useful information to a warm & fuzzy feeling, but it should be something that they will appreciate.

Sure, this approach takes some extra effort, but they are our customers and they are worth it.
