“Astounding” was the word of people who attended the first exhibition and art show by members of the art class under the direction of Sister Josetta, a basket weaver, art practitioner, poet and member of the Felician Franciscan Sisters Congregation who opened new doors for residents who had never before held a paint brush.

When residents at Summit of Uptown, a senior living community in Park Ridge, met for their first art class a year ago with Sister Josetta Prondzinski, some of them asked, “Can I hold a paint brush to paint a picture?” At an art show and exhibition just one year later, the results were astounding.

The art class taught by Sister Josetta, a basket weaver, art practitioner, poet and member of the Felician Franciscan Sisters Congregation opened new doors for these older folks who had never before held a paint brush. Creating works of art through drawing and painting in all mediums—Sister Josetta has established herself as a visual artist in watercolors, acrylics, oil pastels and mural work—the nascent artists have already begun preparing for their second art show next year.
