1. Attorney for closed Downtown Peoria building withdraws from case (pjstar.com) — A key attorney has stepped away from representing the owner of a long-closed high-rise in downtown Peoria, where the city is seeking millions in fines over unresolved safety violations. New Chicago-based lawyers will now lead the case as the building remains shuttered, still needing major fire, electrical, and HVAC repairs that have frustrated city officials and residents watching the prolonged dispute.
2. Increased demand for blood prompts more local drives (wmbdradio.com) — Blood donors in Peoria can help meet a summer shortage at an ImpactLife mobile drive at Illinois Cancer Care on North Wood Sage Road on September 3. The organization is also hosting drives in Canton and Pekin, with donors earning rewards or donating them to charity and several easy ways to schedule appointments.
3. Mayor Ali views Phoenix Manor project as another key piece to revitalizing Peoria's South Side (wcbu.org) — Peoria Mayor Rita Ali is backing the Phoenix Manor supportive housing project on the South Side, calling it crucial to bringing residents and services back to the neighborhood. She also outlines plans to revitalize Main Street, upgrade the riverfront, create a new industrial park, and use a West Main TIF to spur investment, while acknowledging Peoria likely won't land a large data center soon.
4. Rep. Sorensen discusses clean energy careers, minority business needs during Peoria stop (wcbu.org) — U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen stopped in Peoria to talk directly with clean energy trainees and minority entrepreneurs about the challenges of starting and sustaining local businesses. He highlighted how Illinois' push into renewables could create high-paying careers in fields like wind, solar, and nuclear, and stressed the need for strong training programs so Peoria residents are ready for those emerging opportunities.
