1. Peoria announces changes to waste collection schedule for Labor Day week (peoriastandard.com) — Peoria residents will see all trash, recycling, and yard waste collections pushed back one day during Labor Day week, with no service on Monday, Sept. 7. Regular Monday pickups move to Tuesday and so on, ending with Friday routes collected on Saturday, and residents are reminded to have containers out by 6 a.m. and removed within 24 hours.
2. Mayor remains optimistic despite challenges for South Peoria grocery store (wmbdradio.com) — A long-awaited CJ Harvest grocery store on South Western Avenue is moving toward an October opening, despite a mechanics lien and rising construction costs. Mayor Rita Ali remains confident the South Peoria supermarket will help address the area's food desert, create jobs, and bring new activity to a neighborhood that has seen significant population decline over the past two decades.
3. Methodist College opens OR simulation lab for CRNA program (centralillinoisproud.com) — In Peoria, Methodist College has opened a new operating room simulation lab as a key step toward launching its first Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist program. Partnering with Carle Health and backed by an $840,000 Gilmore Foundation contribution, the lab will let future CRNA students practice critical skills in a realistic OR setting before treating patients, with the first cohort expected in 2028.
4. Brendan Bayliss and Joel Cummins Announce Fall Acoustic Duo Tour (miamimusicbuzz.com) — Peoria music fans can catch Umphrey's McGee co-founders Brendan Bayliss and Joel Cummins in an intimate acoustic set at Kenny's Westside Pub on November 6, with part of the proceeds supporting Cummins Educational Scholarships. The duo is also playing Whitestown, Indiana, and Bayliss has additional Midwest festival and residency dates lined up this fall.
