Southport Road is now handling 600–650 tons of trash daily for Peoria and Peoria County under a long-term disposal agreement. Residents can use the site through the county's Free Load Program and recycling drop-off, with added benefits like hazardous waste events and options for unincorporated areas.
2. New Campustown parklet transforms parking spaces near Bradley University (centralillinoisproud.com) — Three former parking spaces in Peoria's Campustown have been turned into a new parklet outside CxT Roasting Co., giving Bradley students and neighbors more outdoor seating and gathering space. Backed by Big Picture Peoria, Bradley University, and local groups, the project aims to boost nearby businesses, connect campus with surrounding neighborhoods, and showcase Peoria to visiting students.
3. Peoria County board hears all 113 turbines will be surveyed for bird, bat fatalities (peoriastandard.com) — Peoria County residents following the Four Creeks wind project now know that all 113 turbines are slated for bird and bat fatality surveys, not just a few near sensitive areas. A consulting biologist told the zoning board that standardized searches, detection dogs, and federal wildlife protocols will guide the study, though the exact monitoring timeline is still being negotiated with state and federal agencies.
4. Expert tells Peoria County board wind turbine ice, blade-throw risk is extremely low (peoriastandard.com) — A wind-energy risk analyst told the Peoria County Zoning Board of Appeals that simulations using Midwest wind data show ice shed and blade-throw risks from the proposed Four Creeks wind project are extremely low at the planned setback distances. His testimony, based on international safety standards, will factor into county decisions affecting nearby residents and future turbine siting.
5. Peoria County zoning board hears testimony on 30-hour shadow flicker standard for wind project (peoriastandard.com) — If you live near the proposed Four Creeks wind project in Peoria County, a key expert says Illinois' 30-hour-per-year shadow flicker limit at homes can be met using targeted turbine shutdowns. Testimony to the county zoning board described how smart curtailment systems and SCADA programming could limit indoor flicker annoyance while keeping turbines running when no shadows would reach nearby houses.
