Officials plan to build reserves for a much larger second phase, aiming to maintain services, avoid staff cuts, and continue investing in roads, bridges, and county buildings.
2. Overnight shooting leads to 21st homicide in Peoria (centralillinoisproud.com) — Peoria police are investigating the city's 21st homicide of the year after a man was found fatally shot early Saturday on W. Seibold Street between S. Idaho and S. Oregon. Officers responded around 2:36 a.m. to multiple ShotSpotter alerts, and investigators are still searching for the shooter. Residents with any information are urged to contact Peoria police or Crime Stoppers.
3. Greater Peoria launches effort to strengthen region's manufacturing workforce (wmbdradio.com) — A new initiative led by the Greater Peoria Leadership Council aims to strengthen the region's manufacturing workforce and open more career paths for local students and adults. Backed by Caterpillar's statewide workforce investment, the effort will map existing programs, identify gaps, and survey area manufacturers about their needs. The goal is to build a stronger manufacturing talent pipeline for Greater Peoria.
4. Pope Leo receives a relic of Blessed Fulton Sheen from Peoria's bishop (dioceseofscranton.org) — Peoria Bishop Louis Tylka recently presented Pope Leo XIV with a relic of Blessed Fulton Sheen, a beloved figure with strong ties to the Peoria Diocese. Local priest Msgr. Jason Gray also attended, highlighting Peoria's prominent role in promoting Sheen's legacy within the global Catholic Church.
