July 14, 2021 (Peoria, IL) Residents interested in learning more about the Advisory Committee on Police-Community Relations should attend their July Virtual Townhall, scheduled from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm on July 22. This month’s featured guests include Chief Demario Boone, Director of School Safety for Peoria Public Schools, and Chris Johnson, Focused Deterrence Project Manager for the Peoria Police Department. A lifelong resident of Peoria, Chief Boone focuses on providing safe environments for young people. He recently led the charge to establish “Lights on, Peoria”, a weekend program available at Manual and Peoria High Schools that provides teenagers with a variety of programs and services. Chief Boone leads an award-winning school safety team and has been in his current position since 2016. Chris Johnson will speak about the Peoria Police Resource Center, located at 2300 N. Wisconsin. This East Bluff location serves as a hub for education, job training, computer training, health services, and more.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide an opportunity for residents to provide ideas and feedback to the committee. The meeting will be in ZOOM format, but there will also be a phone number available for those who do not have internet access. For those who only want to watch the meeting, it will be posted on the City of Peoria YouTube channel (cityofpeoriatv).
