The Tree City USA achievement came in spring, around the time of year when the City, Peoria Park District and South-West Kiwanis Club partner for an annual Arbor Day tree planting ceremony. Due to social distancing and other precautions, this year’s event took place privately today, Friday, June 26 at Constitution Garden. The group planted a Red Jewel Crab Tree along the riverfront in celebration of community trees and the work accomplished to foster their growth.
“Arbor Day is about more than recognizing the value and natural beauty of new trees,” said Rick Powers, Public Works Director. “Arbor Day and our annual tree planting brings an opportunity to educate our residents about tree care, conservation and the need to protect wildlife habitat. Trees are vital to our health and wellbeing.”
