City Of Peoria Urges Essential Businesses To Follow Social Distancing Rules

"Restaurants should provide safe waiting spaces for customers getting carry-out, and follow other health regulations."

April 6, 2020

On March 31st, 2020, Governor Pritzker extended his Executive Order, closing all non-essential businesses through the end of April to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19. Local governments are responsible for enforcing the Order based on guidance from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).

The Order allows restaurants and other facilities that prepare and serve food to remain open through in-house delivery, third party delivery, drive through, curbside pickup and carry-out. However, restaurants must provide safety measures to ensure social distance is occurring. Restaurants should limit the amount of people inside their locations, provide safe waiting spaces for customers getting carry-out, and ensure all other health regulations are followed.

“It is crucial for us to do as much as we can to engage essential businesses,” said Assistant City Manager, Deborah Roethler. “We want to ensure essential businesses remain open and that the safety of our residents is not compromised. We believe both can occur by complying with the recommendations from our State and National officials.”
