Launched in October 2017, the PeoriaCorps Program aimed to provide career opportunities for unemployed workers 17 years and older. Through hands-on training, Corps members gain skills in environmental beautification and green infrastructure and landscaping solutions. Members also receive classroom training in soft skills, which are vital to the career-building process. Projects have included planting trees and native plants, and cleaning, weeding, and maintaining green infrastructure projects within the City. Corps members also can complete the program with credentials from the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program.
Recruitment for the fifth cohort, starting Tuesday, May 26, has begun. Individuals interested in enhancing their skills by obtaining an industry-recognized credential should complete the job application on the City of Peoria employment page. A stipend is also provided. Applications may be found at http://www.peoriagov.org/internal-applications/.
